Tagged

I got tagged by
Tenika (thanks girl…) We are supposed to list 5 weird things about myself and then "tag" 5 other people to do the same. And then post on their blog that they have been "tagged"
5 random things about myself… Gee I dunno…

I hate spending money. Jory’s the same way. I never impulse purchase and I rarely spend money on stuff that I don’t really need.

I’m always cold in the winter. I wear long johns when it gets below 50 degrees. My children have little pink cheeks all winter long because I’m always worried that they’re cold. – Oh and I spend most of my summers in long pants.

I’ve never broken a bone or seriously injured myself, but my joints make all sorts of pops and snaps (wrists, elbows, knees, ankles, and hips) left over from my days as a gymnast.

I hate being unproductive. Even when I’m relaxing I need to do something productive. (That’s why I rarely watch TV or movies)

I’m rarely hungry. If I didn’t have children to feed I’d probably skip breakfast and lunch on a daily basis (bad habit, I know). I just don’t see much purpose in eating if you aren’t hungry.

wasn't that fun?
Now I get to tag someone!!!

I'm picking:

Shelby

Megan

Liza

Bleh

Ever have one of those days where you just don’t wanna do anything? That’s how I am this morning. I have a vague headache and I have some sorta inner ear thing going on which means my ear hurts a little and I’m dizzy. So I don’t really want to do anything. Which is the main reason for this post – to avoid tackling that huge pile of stuff on my to do list. Sadly I don’t have anything really interesting to say.
I’m looking forward to a get together this evening. My friend Emily from high school is home with her newborn daughter Eva, so I’m going over to meet the baby and catch up with her.

The weekend review…

It was the “ack! Christmas is NEXT WEEKEND” shuffle at my house this weekend. A flurry of finishing up and mailing Christmas cards, purchasing the few last gifts, and making cookies (which are already gone!). I was asleep by 9:00 pm on Saturday, and still managed to sleep until 8:00 am on Sunday morning, missing the first half of the church service.
The kids have had fun in their new kitchen they got as an early Christmas present this weekend from Cathy. Alex has been baking up all sorts of yummy things for us to sample, including “cherry soup”. Mmmm. The girls might not totally get the pretend thing, but they’re working on it. Yesterday Louisa brought me one of her cups from their kitchen and said “milk”. Of course I had to try her “milk”, boy it was tasty.
I talked to my friend Karen yesterday. We’ve been friends since high school, and she was in my wedding. She’s currently living in Chicago and is in her last year of grad school at U of Chicago, training to be a social worker. It was good to catch up with her and hear all her stories about life…

Brr.

Not sure it was worth it, but I took them out anyway. I didn't really get any good pics, but I got enough to prove that we were out! (that's what matters right?)
So here are some less than great pics. Love the one of Alex. He has on one mitten and a sock. Weirdo.

Snowed in.

We’ve officially had our second “big snow” of the year (4.5 inches according to the news). Sadly the first “big snow” hasn’t melted off yet, so there’s tons of snow on the ground. One of these days I’ll get the kids out in it (long enough to snap a few pics, then we’ll come back in!) I’m not much of a cold weather person. Besides the idea of bundling up 2 toddlers and a preschooler (which will take at least 30 min. I’m sure) for 20 minutes in the snow just doesn’t sound worth it.
The good news is that my neighbors from the biker club came over last night and dug out my driveway. They had a 2 man crew, one in a truck with snow plow (it’s a long drive way) the other with a shovel. They came over around 10:30 last night; I was still up watching the Apprentice finale, so I went out and spoke to them. Jeff says “heaven help me if I let you drop one of those babies”. I think I’m going to take them a plate of brownies or something to say thanks.

Uhhhhhhh……….

How come I think up a million things to write about in the middle of the night, but as I sit down here to write, I can’t think of a darned thing? So frustrating. I should write these entries at 2 am, I really should.
Ah yes, now I remember some of my random stories. Annie. Sweet adorable Annie. (NOT!) code name: Jail bird. The stinker has already figured out how to get out of her jail *did I say that?* I mean crib. She used the rocking chair that’s between the girls beds. You bet your buttons I moved that rocking chair. (take that ya little monkey!)
Alex has been all about the fake sneeze lately. Complete with the adorable “excuse me” afterward. What is it with boys and their bodily sounds? At least it’s not the fart. Only a matter of time, I know.
The girls are starting to understand the concept of color. They point to something and proudly announce “green!” whether the particular item they’re pointing to is green or not, is slightly irrelevant at this point. I believe that Alex had his colors down by his second birthday, so the girls are right on track.

Monday Morning, feeling groovy.

As far as weekends go, mine was a pretty normal one. Saturday was my day to run errands, so Alex and I teamed up with my mom to knock some chores off of our lists. I picked up my curriculum for Sunday school, picked up my payment from the scrapbook store from my calendar class. From there we ate lunch and dropped a schload of stuff at the library. In the evening Jory and I worked on our various craft projects.
Sunday morning we went to church, had lunch, then went back to work on various craft projects while the kids “rested” (aka played in their beds 3 hours when we finally gave up on them sleeping). Oh and we watched the season finale of Survivor (yea for Dani!)
I’ve been saving a few more random stories from my life.
Louisa comes up to me and says some bit of gibberish. While I proceed to figure out what she’s telling me, she laughs at me! (she’s probably done this 5-6 times) It’s almost like she thinks “lets say some nonsense to Mommy and make her think I’m saying something real, then laugh at her when she can’t figure it out” – that kid has quite a sense of humor.
For the last 18 months or so my girls have had oatmeal for breakfast every morning. For a long time I would mix raisin bran or some other dry cereal in it to make it a little more interesting. But every morning for the last week they’ve been asking for “fruit breakfast” (oatmeal with fruit in it). Of course the proud Mommy willingly grants the request. Ah the joys of being able to communicate your desires, and have your request fulfilled.
Ah yes, as I sit here listening to Phil Collins on my little playlist, I’m reminded of another story. I generally have some form of music on during the day for company. One day I had Phil Collins on, and Alex says to me “It’s the Tarzan song!” I was completely shocked! First of all, it wasn’t the Tarzan song, but it was the same artist who did the Tarzan song. Second of all, I think he’s only seen that movie once, so HOW THE HECK DID HE MAKE THAT CONNECTION? The kid never ceases to amaze me.

Christmas shopping.

So last night Jory and I *started* our Christmas shopping for the kids. Let me tell you our list of ground rules that we established before we started shopping, so you can appreciate the struggle we had in finding a few things for each kid.
1. Nothing battery operated.
2. Nothing directly tied to pop culture – my kids don’t really watch tv, so they don’t really care about sponge bob / Dora the explorer / Blues Clues – and I’d like to keep it that way. So no Dora board games please.
3. Nothing we already have 1,000 of – no stuffed animals, matchbox cars, books or videos.
4. Nothing that looks like it will break easily. If it can break, it will in my house.
5. Nothing with tons of little pieces for me to pick up – no more legos, or puzzles
So here’s what we ended up with:
1. Mini playground balls – small enough to be played with inside, soft enough that they can be thrown and hopefully not break anything. 4 in a package is the added bonus
2. Two sets of Thomas the tank engine cars. – Yes I realize there are Thomas videos – which makes them somewhat pop culturish. But I don’t think my children would care if they were “Thomas” cars or generic train cars – they fight over the ones we have, so it was time to add to the collection.
3. A board game: Hi ho Cherry – O. Alex and I love to play games together, so it was time for a new game.
I’m still on the look out for some puppets that don’t make their own noises (what’s up with that?) and a medium sized car/truck that isn’t battery operated or looks like it will break easily. Plus I might make some bean bags for my kids

Random stuff.

Last night I had my calendar class. I had the funniest lady in my class. Her name was Joan and she cracked me up the entire night long. Have I mentioned that I love connecting with other local scrapbookers? Every class I teach I get to meet new people and hear new stories, see pictures of other peoples kids, discuss the newest trends in scrapbooking… it’s so fun. Last night was no different. Glad that class is over though. It’ll be a while before I take on another big project.
I’ve been fighting my natural sleep cycle lately. My preferred sleeping hours are from 10:30 – 7:30. Well lately I’ve been sleeping until 9ish. No one seems to need my attention before then, and I have no discipline about getting up if I don’t have to. So I sleep until 9:00, which is nice, but then I can’t seem to fall asleep before midnight. My body is so exhausted from being a mom all day that I can’t do anything productive after 8:00 pm, but I’m still awake for 4 hours. So I’m trying to be more disciplined in when I get up. But I wont tell you that I got up at 9:15 this morning. Ugh.
Kid funnies:
The other day Louisa was looking out the window and said clear as day “eat snow”. Where did that one come from? I haven’t really had them out playing in the snow, and certainly haven’t discussed the possibility that snow is edible. Weird.
I know I had other kid funnies to share, but I can’t remember them off the top of my head.

Christmas photos

Ever try to take a formal portrait of 2 toddlers and a preschooler all at the same time? Oh my what a headache. The hardest part is trying to get them to sit still in the little photo set up. Now I remember why I always take them outside when I want to take photos.
I got lots of silly ones, but here are the best "formal" ones.

Our weekend

We had a fun and relaxing weekend in our house. Saturday Alex and I ran errands. We went to my mom’s house and the library. I had no curriculum to teach my Sunday School lesson with on Sunday, so I had to scrounge around to see what I could come up with on my own. The library had fun things for everyone: a book and magazine for me, 2 videos for Alex, and a movie for Jory. Saturday afternoon I spent some time reorganizing my play list, adding some new songs that had been floating around on my computer. They were mostly songs that Jake gave us when he was here a few weeks ago, but there were some other new ones that hadn’t been organized yet. Saturday evening was the annual office Christmas party at Jory’s boss’s house. In the past they haven’t been much fun, because Jory was “the new guy” and didn’t really know anyone, but he’s managed to make a few friends now, so we had a good time.
Sunday morning found us at church. My impromptu Sunday school lesson went over well. We did the story of Joshua and the battle at Jericho. We listened to the story, made horns, built a wall, then knocked it down. Lots of fun if you’re five years old. After church Alex and I went to my mom’s house to make cookies, I think we finished up about 1/3 of our cookie baking for the season. Sadly I didn’t have my camera with me, so I don’t have any evidence!
