Get-together and other random stuff.

Last night I went to a scrapbooking get together at a friends house. I haven’t been to one of those things in forever! It was so nice to just chat and be creative with friends. Plus I got 3 cards done for my project that’s due on Saturday (30% done – woo hoo!) had some interesting discussions about future get-togethers and potential projects that I could put together for our group – which I’m really excited about.
Finally got to go out and do some much needed yard work yesterday. The recent lack of rain has taken its toll out of the skeeter population, and it’s possible to go in the grass without being eaten alive again. My flowerbeds are still sadly overgrown, but they’re getting better – very slowly.
Oh yes. Mom brag moment coming on. Alex definitely has the math gene (wonder where it came from??) In the past week we’ve conquered ordering sets of 3-4. (As in we rolled 4 dice and he lined them up in ascending order). THEN we got out the uno cards and played war. As in comparing two numerals with no graphic representation of quantity – he totally aced it. Easy cheesy for that kid. Next week – algebra.

Sick day

I have a headache. I’ve come to realize they’re dehydration from drinking too much soda. (More than 1 can of soda in 24 hours is too much for my body apparently). It came on last night after I put the kids in bed. (as they normally do). 14 hours later, fortified with 2 extra strength aspirin, about 30 oz of water, and a fitful night of sleep I still feel like garbage. But now I get to feel like garbage with a wiggly toddler in my lap who won’t take no for an answer.
My loving husband opted to take part of the morning off so I could recover, it did help a little. But I think my agenda for today will include lying on the couch and doing as little as possible – sadly in this house, that’s more difficult than it sounds. Oh and think about NOT THROWING UP. Wish me luck.

Normal weekend

It was your typical run of the mill weekend around here. Nothing terribly exciting occurred. Friday was a date night at the church, so we took the kids over then had dinner and did a little shopping. Saturday Alex and I went to a picnic with some of my parents Boy Scout friends. Alex had a ball climbing in and out of the tents they had set up.
Other than that my weekend consisted of a bike ride, church, a nap, and some brownies made from scratch (my first batch, and they weren’t half bad!)

It’s all about the chair

I’ve been meaning to take pics of the kids in this chair forever. We’ve had this chair forever, I remember sitting in it as a kid.

Gotta love Annie and her sunglasses.

I had to bribe these kids out the wazoo to get these pics, but hey

Kiddisms: chapter 496

Alex has taken to sneaking in to our closet in the middle of the night. Don’t know what that’s all about. He falls asleep in his own bed, but sometime after midnight he moves to my side of our closet. Whatever.
Annie: my little dancer. We had some ragtime music on last night, a new music style for our kids. They were all bopping around to it (ok, I admit I was dancing as well) Alex and Louisa were just sorta jumping around with no rhyme or reason to their movement, but not Annie. She was very deliberate about how she moved, almost like she was doing a choreographed dance. It was rather fascinating to watch.

Last Hurrah

Well yesterday was my mom’s last day of summer vacation :( So of course we had to send it out with style. For our last big adventure we took a road trip up to the new Ikea that’s about an hour north of us. Holy cow. I could easily have dropped $1,000 in that store. Just give me one of everything and we’ll be set. But no. I was good. I only spent about $40 on a table for my scrapbooking area. More work space is always a bonus.
In other news. There is no other news. Life here is pretty uneventful. There are new chairs in the kitchen. My mom found a matching set at a garage sale. They are stinking cute – old wooden chairs that painted white with just enough “wear” in them to make them cute.
There are new songs in the playlist (not that you care) but I added like 25 yesterday – Sugarland, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Randy Travis, and Shania Twain.
I should take pics of all the new stuff around here, but no. Too lazy. Maybe someday. Don’t hold your breath. That’s what I said about the stone divider that I put in almost a month ago.

Did you know?

Does anybody watch The Office on NBC? (It’s a must watch if you haven’t, it’s pretty danged funny) Anyway. I wasn’t aware that it was a complete rip off of a British show of the same name. The names of the characters are different, but they have the same personality quirks. Jory and I watched a few episodes from the first season last night, and I’m happy to say the American version is considerably funnier.

A perfect way to spend an afternoon.

What do you do when the weather is absolutely perfect and you have no activities scheduled (ie you’re bored)? What? you wanna go to the park? Let me see… ok. But first we have to spend 45 minutes making you really cute. Heh. (Think it was worth it?) If I had more time I'd put up some of the other cutie pics, but it's nap time...

Home again

Well the girls returned safely home from their West Virginia. They had a great time entertaining those old people and playing on the swings at the park. (Initial reports are somewhat sketchy). But they’re glad to be home. They’re in that honeymoon phase where they’re just being cute because they missed us. It won’t last.
Last night I had a very full card class at the scrapbook store. 10 people, plus one lady who wanted an extra kit, so I’ll get paid for 11. That’ll be a nice chunk of change on pay day.

4 years old (and a month)

Alex's 4 year old pics. No I don't have a good reason why they are a month late. Shhhh. No one will ever know. If I were really talented, they'd all be the same size, but where would the fun be in that.

Summer projects and a little fun

Ok, the last week has been a total whirlwind of summer projects and ignoring my housework. Friday afternoon my mom and I put in a brick divider between my grass and the shrubs/plants in front of our house. It’s so stinkin cute. I’d show you pics, but I haven’t taken any yet. On the to do list.
My other “Grandma’s on summer vacation so lets do some redecorating together” project was painting the girls room. Last summer Alex got a new room, so we thought it was only fair. In addition to painting, we plan on putting in a new window treatment, and new closet doors. I do have pictures of that, but I don’t feel like uploading them right now.
Since my last post we’ve also had a picnic in the park (and played in a fabulous garden – yes there are some way cute pics of that too, somewhere) and spent a few days at the lake with my Aunt Carol, and cousin Emily.
The girls are going to West Virginia with my mom tomorrow to visit my grandmother. Maybe I’ll get my act together while their gone. Then again, maybe not.

Sweet relief

The last few days here have been so hot it’s not funny. Mid-upper 90’s ish range. I know that’s not very hot for some people, but when you have no air conditioner, it’s hot. REALLY hot. It wasn’t so bad on Saturday and Sunday, because the house was still relatively cool, but Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday it was sweltering. Fun. I’ve never been so glad to see rain. Not this summer at least. Holy moly is it dark and stormy outside. But that’s ok, because the high for today is only 85 degrees. Nice.
In case you cared, July rainfall amounts in our area were over 9 inches. (Not for the year, just for July) Which smashes the previous record of 8 and some change, which was set in the 1880’s
Mom! Sisters are playing in the potty! With that, I sign off. Good grief.
