Warm afternoon

The weather yesterday was absolutely wonderful. After some much-needed getting ready for winter chores, the kids and I decided to play in the leaves. Well actually I decided to sweep up a fraction of the leaves on our property into a 4-foot pile for the kids to run through and wreak havoc on. Then we had to go for the customary stroll around the grounds in the wheelbarrow. Lots of fun in our yard yesterday. Of course I took pics.

New banner!

If your blind (or using bloglines) I have a new banner today! I took this pic when I was at the ranch. They get some amazing sunsets out there (nothing to block the view). I just happened to get the whole pasture fence, farm machine thing (don't know the real name of it, sorry George) lined up. Lovin it.

Nothing much at all.

Everything around here has settled down a bit. We’re getting used to being just the 5 of us again. Yesterday Alex says to me, “I like just being us”. Me too buddy. As much as I love the excitement of traveling and having my in-laws around, its nice to just be us. Doing things our way and getting back to normal.
So. News. I’m trying to think of some… Yesterday Miss Annie woke me up to tell me she needed to sit on the potty. This is the child who adamantly refuses to use the potty. She’s extremely stubborn, and has NO desire to be a big girl like her sister. She’s not tempted by the cute underwear her sister wears, nor by the promise of a big song and dance when she’s done. So for her to tell me it was time to sit on the potty is big news. I have no idea whether she went or not, but she says she did.
Alex learned a new trick this week. He can now count to 100 by 10’s. He’s still mildly confused by 10 and 20 but once he gets going, he’s good to go. Such a big boy.
Ok another Annie-ism and then I must go be responsible. She’s decided that the letter A is her letter, and points it out wherever she goes. So stinking cute.

Seeking normalcy

Well my in-laws headed back to Missouri and New Mexico this morning. So hopefully my life can steer itself back toward a state of normalcy. Ha.
I’ve been feeling rather congested lately. It’s the whole transition from New Mexico climate to local climate that really did a number on me. Considering it’s supposed to snow today. Blech.
I also have a class tonight. 8 people – which is a nice, normal sized class – not like my last one with 12. That one was a monster. You wouldn’t think 4 people would make that much of a difference. I’m pumped to go see some of the ladies again, and meet some new faces. Watch me get two last minute sign-ups.
I just glanced out the window and it’s snowing. Yuck.
I went to a scrapbook retreat over the weekend. My mom hosted a few of us out at the lake house. I got some work done on some upcoming projects, which I was really happy about. Plus I got to spend time with friends without my kids. How often does that happen? It was good, even though I was sick.

Back from out west

Hi! Remember me? I’m the one who owns this blog. I’m such a slacker. Don’t remind me. The last 10 days have been insanity – I have the pictures to prove it.
So we’ve been out to New Mexico. We left here on Sunday after church and stopped in Joplin, Missouri to sleep at Uncle Jake’s house. Monday morning we left for another full day of driving and arrived in Albuquerque that night.
Tuesday-Wednesday we spent the day bumming around Albuquerque, seeing the hot air balloon fiesta, hiking in the mountains outside of town, and spending some good quality time with Jory’s grandmother. We also drove up to Santa Fe, but didn’t stop as the kids were napping.

Wednesday we drove down to the ranch to visit with Grandma and Papa. The kids had a ball playing with Papa’s toys in the barn and chasing kittens.
On Saturday we had the service for Jory’s aunt, and got to visit with some of his family who we haven’t seen in nearly two years.
Sunday we packed up to head home, after church, some authentic Mexican food (YUM) and a visit with our friends the Carpenters who live in Texas. We got to Jake’s at like 5:00 am, slept for a few hours and headed out for another full day of driving, arriving at our house around 2:30 am.
The good news is that my in-laws came home with us, so Ginger has taken over half of my responsibilities, which means I might actually be somewhat caught up on my cooking/cleaning/child care responsibilities by the time she leaves. Notice I said MIGHT. I haven’t really gone through my pics all that well, but here are a few for the visually inclined.

We might have a plan

So remember that aunt of Jory’s? Well we still haven’t been to services yet. But we’ve received official confirmation that services will be next Saturday so we’ve made our trip plans (again). But this time I’m already packed, both deadlines met, and worked a little ahead on my kit prep for my class on 10/23. So I can take some time off. We’re planning on taking an extra day to go to Albuquerque to visit his grandmother and go hiking in the mountains up there. Which we’re very excited about.
I’ll be back, with pics. Of course.

just kidding

Remember that frantic girl who posted yesterday? Well she got lost on the way home from her class last night. When I got home last night Jory said that we didn’t need to drop everything and go right away. Something about the executer to the estate (or whatever he’s called) is stationed in Germany and it’ll take him 2 days to get here before they can start making arrangements. So we’re not leaving today at noon. The good news is I didn’t have anything critical packed, so I don’t have to unpack anything yet, just keep the kids away from the luggage.
A great big thanks to my mom who came over to play with my kids yesterday so I could maintain sanity, AND picked up some traveling snacks for us. Mom’s rock.
The card class went over well. We had 12 people, which overflowed my half of the class area, fortunately no one was using the other side of the classroom so I was free to use one of the other tables, which I affectionately nicknamed “the exile table”. 4 people from this class signed up for the next class, which is still 3 weeks away – and is starting to take the form of an oversized class.

[frantic]

the word that currently describes my general well being at the moment. More accurately it describes my general well being for the last oh… 4 days. I agreed to do a craft project for the women’s retreat at my church, kits for 30 cards – not that big of a deal. I can get that done by next Friday, no problem.
Enter Jory.
So do you remember my aunt that’s been on life support for like 6 weeks, well she’s finally passed away. Lets go to the funeral.
Me: Ok, no problem we’ve been expecting this, we’ll just make the arrangements and go. When do we need to leave by?
J: Tuesday.
Yikes.
Did I mention that Friday deadline? Did I mention I have a FULL class at the store tonight? How about my project that’s due on Saturday?
Watch me get food poisoning.
