Meet Superflame

Kids are funny right? We all know that. It’s different when they go from being funny and not knowing it, to being intentionally funny. That brings me to Superflame. Alex’s most recent alter ego. Last night while I was making dinner, he saunters into the kitchen and uses his best super hero voice to introduce himself. Slightly reminiscent of Piggin String I imagine (you’ll have to ask Jory about that one). Too danged funny. In other news, the newest season of my dancing show (So You Think You Can Dance) started, and I’m so excited. Seriously. As in, forget watching The Office reruns, I must watch this. I’m seriously obsessed with it already. I was so excited to see Benji (winner of last season) dancing with his little sister for her audition (sigh).

Weekend excitement

So how was your holiday weekend? Ours was fun. Saturday we had a fun family outing to the big library down town. We managed to kill a good 4 hours there with out even trying. Then we had ice cream for dinner. (The joys of being a responsible parent)
Sunday Jory had a pass to the Indy 500 races in Indianapolis, so I took the kids to church and then out to the lake for some Grandma time. The weather was yucky on Sunday, so we hung out inside. We read a lot of stories, had some snacks, then read a little more. But Monday was significantly better weather wise, so we got out and enjoyed it. The kids got some water time in while Jory and I took ourselves on a little adventure (aka we got lost in the middle of no-where Indiana) But now reality is knocking on the door. Sigh.

Photos from Montana

So many good ones, how do you pick? 300+ pics. You obviously don't want to see them all. Well here are some of my tops. Maybe if I get bored (ha) I"ll get some more set up, but don't hold your breath.

Avalanche gorge (Glacier)

Lake McDonald (Glacier)

Hungry Horse Dam (Hungry Horse)

And finally: us, back at the ranch.

Montana adventure

We’re back! We had a wonderful time visiting Jason, Vangie, and Levi. They were excellent tour guides and managed to wear us out thoroughly. We left on the train last Tuesday, and rode 31 hours to get to Whitefish / Kalispell Montana. The train ride was wonderful (wayyyyyyy better than driving) the kids did super, Jory and I got to sit and relax the entire way.
We arrived at Jason and Vangie’s on Wednesday evening just in time to go to bed. Thursday we hung around and explored a little, took a hike, rode motorcycles, played in the fishpond. Friday we went to St. Regis, Montana to visit Vangie’s parents. On the way we went to play in some hot springs (that looked oddly like swimming pools). Saturday we went exploring a little, played in the sand pile, rode the 4 wheeler, and got pretty dirty. Sunday we drove back to Jason’s. We went to church, had lunch, rode the motorcycles (some more), and chilled a little. Monday we hit Glacier National Park. Well part of it anyway, a lot of it was closed for the season. The part we saw was pretty cool though. Tuesday I spent most of the time packing while the kids played. In the evening we took the horses out for a spin through the apple orchard. The kids were a little leery of the horses at first, but once they were up in the saddle (with a grown up), they thought it was pretty cool. After the kids went to bed, Vangie and I took a trail ride up the mountain. We got back on the train on Wednesday, and both Jory and I were asleep before we passed Glacier (eek!)
So that’s our vacation in a nutshell. I’m still sorting through the photos (only 315!) to figure out which ones are good enough to post. I’ll get some of the better ones up here in the next few days.

Kid quotes

Annie has had some good ones this week. Lets see if I can remember them.
Saturday to me: Mom, you’re so smart.
Yesterday: the girls were pretending to eat each other. So I asked “does your sister make a good supper?” Annie pipes up “I’m supper with eyeballs”
Then yesterday afternoon I was getting ready to make supper, and she was running around the kitchen like a little nut. I asked her if she was still supper and she says “I’m bread! Bread is running, bread is running” Crazy kid.
