So I was going to update yesterday with weekend photos, but I decided to go to the zoo instead. So here are photos from both.
The pumpkin patch with Grandma and Drew: Miss Annie with her new big-girls-don’t-wear-pigtail-hairdo. And some pumpkins.

Then yesterday at the zoo with Uncle Drew. We saw the polar bear cubs, ate lunch in a lions cage, and Uncle Drew turned into a beautiful butterfly. Here's a pic of my kids climbing on the elephant that we climbed on when we were kids, and Alex at the hippo-quarium. And that's a lot of pics for one post!

Arggg

Apparently yesterday was national talk like a pirate day. How appropriate.

Not playing favorites

Yesterday the girls got to be props, so Alex cheerfully agreed to sit for me today. As long as he got to wear the pirate hat in some (out takes to follow)

Bored

and you know what that means......
new pics of the girls. Louisa's in yellow.

Week end

Yes, I realize it’s Tuesday, not Monday but I don’t really care. I’m posting about my weekend anyway. As it was above average on the fun-ness scale.
Saturday, our dear friend Cathy stopped by on her way home from vacation in Boston. We hung out, had dinner. She played with my kids, and entertained us old folk with vacation tales.
On Sunday we had our annual church picnic. As was the norm, Jory took the kids over to the playground so I could talk to the other grown ups. Always nice to have a decent conversation without being interrupted 16 times by ornery children. The weather was beautiful, the skeeters weren’t too bad (despite what those city folk claim).
So now we’re settling into another week. This is Alex’s fourth week of school already. I can’t believe how fast it’s going. Alex has his first kidz program at church tonight. It's a little weird to think that I can take him to a church program and not feel obligated to help lead it.

Notes on life.

Just a few random completely unrelated stories for today.
My children have been little artists lately. My floor is constantly littered with scraps of paper, scissors, stickers, and crayons. My son, who at the beginning of the year refused to pick up a pair of scissors, now has a pair permanently attached to his hand. Louisa enjoys coloring in specific shapes, and placing her stickers in very tidy arrangements. Annie is still sort of a scribbler. Occasionally she’ll make something recognizable, but she tends toward massive amounts of color.
So yesterday was our first day back for Sunday school at church. Oh my word. To say it was chaotic would be an understatement. It was a swirl of too many people in a small space, new classroom arrangements, too many new faces, and a general sense of not knowing what was happening around me. Sadly I was one of the few people who was supposed to know what was happening. Generally things settle into a routine after a few weeks, but I’m supposed to change teaching positions in a few weeks from first grade to special needs. So just as I figure out what I’m doing, I’ll start from scratch with more new faces and different challenges. Oh, and a kiddism from last night: Louisa not wanting to leave her comfy spot on my bed to brush her teeth: “I’m frustrated!!!” That kid kills me.

Life

So yesterday my friend Tracy calls me and says “we’re in the area, can we stop by?” Silly question woman. She and Mark were headed past our house (minus the 7 kiddos) and stopped over for the night before heading home to collect their crew. One of these days I’m going to kidnap the entire family. Force them to stay with us for a whole week. Love them so much, hate that they live nearly 3 hours away.
Anyway. Alex’s school is still going well. I made the huge mistake of showing him how to use an eraser. Oh my word. Perfectionistic tendencies + being able to start over = 30 minutes on a super easy worksheet that should have taken 10. Nice.
Our yard has been reclaimed by an angry horde of mosquitoes. We have had a really nice dry summer this year, so the skeeter population has been rather nonexistent. But we had a few rainy days a few weeks back and they’re back with a vengeance. Making up for lost time.
