Stuff.

So life is crazy busy around here. What else is new right? The bad news is I’ve been sucked into this evil vortex called Facebook. It’s this social network website where you can search for friends, post pictures, and do all sorts of goofy stuff. Lots of ways to kill time over there. So if you’re on and we’re not already friends, look me up! I need more friends.
Anyway. Speaking of old friends… Some of you may remember my old buddy Jeremy from college. Well he’s going to be in the states next month (he’s a missionary in Thailand) and he’s going to come visit us! I am BEYOND excited. I’m excited to meet his wife (and hopefully his 2 stepsons) and catch up on the last 6 years.

Ludwig Mill

The weather yesterday was absolutely wonderful, so we decided to take an adventure. Jory and I took the kids down to a metro park that used to be a part of the old Erie Canal. The kids got a kick out of watching the mules pull the old canal boats. We took a tour of the old Ludwig Mill - a historic hydroelectric mill. Then we walked down to the dam and played around on the rocks for a while, and watched some people fish.
But now we’re gearing up for a new week. Another week of Safety town for Alex. Jory is taking the girls to New Mexico at the end of the week for some type of reunion. Plus my raspberries are ripe, so I have to make sure I go out and pick enough for the whole winter… Anyway, here are a few pics from the park.

Update on life

Just a few quick completely unrelated tales for today.
Yesterday the girls were looking at a book and found a picture of a macaw. I think it was Louisa who asked me to identify it. When I told her it was a macaw, she said “oh, a McCoffee” (which is even funnier when you know that no one in this house drinks coffee).
Yesterday I went to Walmart to have some pics developed. I got an 8 x 10 of one of those pics that you guys voted on a few weeks ago. When the lady at the photo center handed me my photos she had to confirm that I was the one who had taken the photos and they weren’t the work of a professional that I was copying. Nope, but thanks for thinking they could have been taken by a pro!
Finally, Alex has been at Safety Town this week. He’s been having a ball. He loves his teachers, the kids in his class, everything. So far the highlight of his week has been sitting in the police car and turning on it’s siren.

Sprinkler love

My dad had the pressure washer over here this weekend to clean the decks off. The kids thought it made a pretty fun sprinkler.

Busy, so busy

This week has been insanity. My mom’s last day of school was Monday, so we’ve been hanging out with her a bunch, helping her enjoy her newfound freedom. We helped her clean out her classroom at one of her schools on Tuesday, (where Louisa pulled the fire alarm. Nice). I got to catch up with some of my former co-workers at the Burnham building. We had some lunch, did some shopping. Just playing.
Lots of church stuff happening this week. I had two children’s ministry meetings, and our first summer Bible study. We have a great set up for summer. There are separate programs for pre-k kids, k-4 kids, and kids in 5th/6th grade. Then on top of that there’s a women’s Bible study that meets at the same time. There was something like 80 kids there. It was crazy. Good crazy.
I was a little concerned about Alex. He was very hesitant to go because he couldn’t remember his Bible verse. (Which incidentally was about 10 words long, and no teacher in their right mind is going to expect a 4 year old to remember all that anyway). It must not have been an issue, because he had a great time. Fortunately we have a few days off before we have our next round of insanity. Time to recover.

Hey thanks!

Thanks for all the feedback you guys! I asked Jory, and he says “the one with Alex in it.” Thanks. I think we settled on the top one. If I ever get around to it. Would you believe I have no pictures of my children hanging up in my house? It’s not because I don’t have any I like, it’s cause I’m LAZY (or busy). Sigh.
So it was a good weekend in our house. Saturday I took Louisa on a date. After our errands we went shopping and went out to lunch. She was super. I even took her in an antique store full of breakables (and no buggies to confine her). She did great. Such a big girl. Sunday after church, we took the kids to have pizza. After lunch we came home and just relaxed all afternoon. The kids played and Jory and I napped. It was a really low key afternoon. The kids were so funny. I don’t remember specifics, but I laughed a lot yesterday afternoon. Just watching the kids play, goofing around, being kids.

Which one is best? Thinking about framing one but don't know which. So tell me which one you like... Oh, and do the sheet wrinkles bother anyone else? Just wondering.

Thanks!

I lied

Make that 4 kittens. 2 appeared in the night. Outside. How they managed to survive the 45 degree evening is beyond me. Anybody want a kitten?

Lucky me.

Remember my cat that I don’t want. Well, now I have 3 cats that I don’t want. That’s right! Kittens. At first I was a little ticked off that Lightning decided to have kittens in my garage, but then I got a good look at them and they’re pretty darned cute.
The only problem with the situation is that the Mama cat is a total ditz. As in she keeps looking at me with a panicked look in her eyes, like “what the heck am I supposed to do!!!” at which I chuckle and say “you got yourself into this mess, you figure it out”.
Yesterday there was quite a bit of kitten related drama. In the morning she had one kitten in the garage (in a box full of sticks no less) and one somewhere outside. I realized after about 2 hours that she wasn’t doing much to take care of the one in the garage (not realizing there was another outside), so I went out and snuggled it in an old towel and cleaned the stick bundles out (it’s with the fire wood). It was still moving around so I figured it was ok. Well 5 hours after that the Mama cat finally started crying to be let back in the garage, (even though she knows how to get in by herself). So I let her in, and gave her a lecture about taking care of her baby. She acted like she couldn’t remember where the kitten was, so I showed her the box, and let her climb in on her own. Then she just sits there, like “now what?” So I get her to lay down so the baby can eat, and I go back inside. 10 minutes later I go back outside, and Mama is gone. Nice. Then I hear the other kitten outside the garage, and I open the door again. Mama brings baby 2 in, sets it in her “nest” and finally snuggles in for the night. I think. I didn’t go back out to check on them after I put the kids in bed.

Exciting weekend

For once we had a really cool weekend. Saturday was our 6th wedding anniversary, so Jory and I decided to take a road trip. We drove to Columbus for the day to do some shopping. We hit up some motorcycle stores, then drove to the Easton Center, which is this HUGE shopping area. It’s like a small city that no one lives in. No houses or apartments, no schools or hospitals, just stores. Lots and lots of stores and restaurants. We went to Archivers (scrapbook supplies) and The Container Store. Both of which were amazing. Sadly I developed a migraine in the late afternoon, and the trip home was less than pleasant.
Sunday Alex graduated from the Pre-k program at church into the kindergarten class, which means that instead of going to the nursery, he goes to the big kid program called “Kidz time”. They had a cute little program where the kids went up front and sang a few songs, then got a children’s devotion from the Children’s Minister. It was very cute. Alex was petrified of singing in front of people (which is surprising, because he’s not a shy child) He was also quite nervous about going to the big kid program. So when the kids were dismissed, I took him back to his class. Which was totally unnecessary because all his nursery buddies were there and they were all so excited to be “big kids”. He did just fine.
