Weekend escape

This weekend Jory decided to take a road trip to Missouri to hang out with his brother and his parents. They’re currently having a ball riding motorcycles, playing video games and generally just being boys.
I took the kids out to the lake to hang with Grandma and Grandpa. It was too cold to be in the water, but we had a ball anyway. The kids all went over to the boy scout camp, got really dirty, looked for flowers, and rode on the Gator (the highlight of Alex’s trip). Mom and I took the girls shopping; found a new wardrobe for the girls at the Carter’s outlet. But now back to reality. Back to chores and school and all that less than fun stuff. The good news is it’s supposed to be near 80 today, and we have cute new summer clothes!

A typical day.

Oh the joys of being a stay at home mom. I get to see just how bizarre my children truly are. So here are some episodes from yesterday. Just a typical day.
Yesterday my children built a jungle in the girls room. Their “jungle” was actually a 6 x 6 foot mountain of crap that came up to my hips. In the girls doorway. Apparently Alex needed somewhere to hide. That’ll do it pal. Just no elephants, kay?
My daughters have a new routine that they find endlessly amusing. They like to strip naked and run up and down the hallway giggling hysterically. Thing 1 and Thing 2 I tell you. (That’s Dr. Seuss if you aren’t up to snuff on your children’s literature) It’s almost like if they strip naked and pull their hair out of their pigtails I won’t be able to tell which kid is which, and they’ll get away with murder. WRONG. I am your MOTHER! I have eyes in the back of my head, remember? Good try though.

Creating

Yesterday I went in to the new store where I’ll be teaching to talk with the owner. We had a nice little chat about upcoming projects and all things creative. She sent me home with a bag full of her newest product to create a few projects with. I showed her my little inspiration book that I made for myself the other day, and she thought it was so cool! She wants me to think about doing one for a class someday. We’ll see how that pans out. Can I tell you how much fun it is to walk away from a scrapbook store with a bag full of new product (so new it wasn’t even on the shelves yet) that I didn’t pay for. Can I tell you how horrible it is to have that bag of product sitting on my desk, knowing full well it may be a few days before I can sit down and play with it? It’s like torture. Sigh.

The sound of sickness

If you were in my house this weekend, that’s what you would have heard. It started on Friday with Alex and Louisa. They spent a good portion of their day either sleeping or throwing up. Nice. I spent the majority of my day cleaning up their little deposits, and holding those sick babies. (In other words, getting absolutely nothing accomplished)
Friday night / Saturday morning Jory and I became quite intimate with this little flu bug. It was the first time he and I had been seriously ill at the same time since my grandfather died a few years back. It wasn’t pretty.
The good news is that my kids were champs. No fighting, no mischief. Just sweet, well-behaved, patient kiddos. I left some crackers and raisins on the counter for them so I didn’t have to worry about them starving to death while I slept, and they handled everything else. Even more impressive was how they spoiled Jory and me. They brought us books, blankies, drinks, the whole works. My favorite moment was when Alex wanted to “scare” my sickies away with kisses. Awwww.
So Monday is here, I’m better. I think Jory is better (he went to work anyway). I’m itching to get some stuff done that needed to be done on Friday.
Happy Monday!

From 70’s to snow

That’s right. Yesterday (and the day before for that matter) were in the 70’s, but today I woke up to snow. Yippee. This happened to me once in college. The windows froze open during the night. I had to actually go outside and knock the ice off the window before it would swivel back in (love ground floor dorm rooms!) Ah well. I’ll have to dig my long johns back out :(
I had the kids outside yesterday, doing some yard work, playing and so forth. Noticed that my lilies are starting to come in (yahoo! – I hope the snow didn’t kill them!) And something else, I think it was the iris I rescued from the ditch last year – but I don’t know for sure.
I gave the kids a photography lesson yesterday. Alex was a natural, driving his little car all over the yard looking for things to take pictures of. The red one is by Alex, it's his car. Louisa took this one of Alex (I cropped it a bit to make it fit better)

(ps. Yes, Miss Annie was feeling much better yesterday!)

Hangin out.

So yesterday it was in the lower 70’s out, so we had to go on an outing. Our first stop was the park near our house. We had a ball playing on the playground. We would have loved to take a hike, but the trails were all too muddy.
After our little park-outing we headed over to Grandma’s on our way over to Megan & Bill’s. We got to see their apartment for the first time, and meet all their critters (which you know the girls loved – except for Samson!) We got to eat some of Bill’s barbeque chicken (YUM)So it was a good day, despite the fact that Annie was feeling yucky for most of the day.

Fun weekend

Two fun weekends right in a row. I’m such a lucky gal.
Friday was date night at the church. Jory and I decided to go out to dinner and then wander around the mall for a while. More like we walked around chuckling at all the latest fashions, wondering “do people actually wear these things?” You’d be amazed at what they try to pass off as “little girl” clothes. Needless to say, we didn’t buy anything. The bookstore on the other hand was a different story. :)
Saturday was an all day scrapbooking party. It was good to catch up with some of my scrapping buddies, make a few pages, and get away from the kids for a while. Yesterday the temperature was in the 50’s, so Jory took the kids to the park so I could recover from my late night scrapping adventure. Then they all washed the car together while I cleaned up a bit. The kids were all soaked and miserable after about an hour, but it sure was fun while it lasted!

Kiddisms:

Had sort of a strange day yesterday. I went with my mom to help my brother move out of his “house” and into a new place. He had been staying with some strange people, and was a little tired of their personality quirks. So I got to see his new place, which was cool. Much better than the old living quarters. I was pretty happy that I could be apart of the whole transition. The kids made a new friend while we were out moving. One of my mom’s friends from work came over to play with them so I could drive the van with Drew’s stuff. So it was a good day, just a little out of the ordinary.
Anyway. I had some kiddisms to record, let me see if I can remember them.
Louisa: insists that her name is spelled with a capital a. The other day I went to write her name on her picture, and when I made the lowercase a, she got sooo mad that she painted over it and insisted that I rewrite it with a capital a. Then yesterday, she comes to me and says “I’m Louisa (which actually sounds like wee-za when she says it) L-o-u-i-s-capital a. I’m not making this up, I swear. Alex: This kid has always been a storyteller. Recently I’ve been giving him pictures from magazines and having him come up with stories to go with the pictures. He dictates, and I write. Well the other day I gave him a picture of a boy with an old man (it was Alan Alda actually, but he didn’t know that) we sat there for an hour thinking up adventures for “Jacob” and “his grandpa”. When we were done, we had a 2 page story. Complete with illustrations. That one is sooo going to be tucked away in a file to be saved forever.

Birthday weekend

Thanks for all the birthday wishes you guys! I had no idea Jory hijacked my blog (again!) Well as far as birthdays go, this one was a pretty good one. Jory took a half-day on Friday, which is (in my opinion) the worlds best birthday present. So I decided to go out and do a little shopping. One of the places I went was a new (to me) scrapbook store, just over the state line, that’s slightly too far away to make it a regular place. So this was my first time at the store, I got to chatting with the owner. She got really excited when I told her that I used to teach for The Scrapbook Place, turns out she’d been wanting to contact me to see if I could teach for her. To make a long story short, I agreed to do something in May or June. I know, I know. I said I was retired. Well I changed my mind. I’m a little tired of having 100% of my life revolve around my children. I need something that’s not directly related to children in any way, shape, or form. So there. The rest of the weekend was a mixture of relaxing and spending time with my family. I got to have a special birthday dinner with my parents and my brother. It’s been the kids have had some Grandpa time, so that was pretty cool.
